Today was my first day of wrestling, and I loved it. First, we started with warm-ups. Some of the warm-ups we did were duck walks, bridges, forward rolls, backward rolls, and a few other exercises. After warming up, we worked on techniques. Most of the techniques we practiced were escapes from bottom and getting takedowns.
Once everyone understood the techniques, we moved on to specific training. Specific training is when we start from the same position we learned in the technique. For example, if the technique started from standing, we would begin standing. We spent about 25 minutes doing this.
I sparred with someone who does jiu-jitsu like me, and it was a good match. He is a full gray belt in jiu-jitsu and has been training for about two years. After that, we played some games like wheelbarrows and practiced more takedowns.
Then we did “live,” which is basically free rolling, but they call it live in wrestling. I was first paired with the first group, but then I was moved to the second group because the people in the first group were too small for me.
The wrestling class was 90 minutes long overall. I really enjoyed it—the class was great, the people were nice, and I made some friends. One of them is named Owen, and he is my friend at Meerkats Wrestling now.
Wrestling
Jiu-Jitsu
In jiu jitsu we train for 45 minutes but in wrestling we train for 90 minutes the exercises we do in jiu jitsu are different compared to wrestling, in jiu jitsu we do exercises that helps on the bottom for example hip a escapes that helps you get out from the bottom position while in wrestling we do more top exercises like takedowns wheel barrows and duck walks.
In jiu jitsu, the technique we do is mostly on the ground, for example, pulling guard, and then we go to a triangle while in wrestlin,g we do more stuff like takedowns or escaping the back from top position in jiu jitsu in my gym we do more specific training to help us get better at the technique same, in wrestling we also do specfifc training.
In jiu jitsu, in free roll, you can pull guard and takedown, and you stop the fight when you submit your opponent. For example, if I make your arm hur,t that is a submission or if i choke your neck out and you can also win by points. In wrestling you can win by pinning or oppent or locking your oppent in a tight postion or you can win by points.
